Inter NHS vs Premier Panthers (Monday, 27 October 2008)
On a near freezing evening at The Frank Lee Centre, title chasing Inter NHS hosted bottom of the table Premier Panthers. It was the Panthers though who started the better of the two teams and they stunned Inter by netting twice within the first 5 minutes. They were first to everything and made life very difficult for Inter who struggled to get a grip on the game. However, Inter were allowed back into the tie with a couple of well taken free kicks and were perhaps a shade fortunate to lead 4 – 3 at half time. The second half proved to be too much for the Panthers though as Inter found their stride and carved open the Panthers’ defence all too often. Owen Dunn, Grzegorz Golinski and Alex Schosland all bagged 2nd half hat-tricks as Inter completely dominated the half and ran out comfortable winners 15 – 5 in the end
Kingsmen vs Inter NHS (Monday, 13 October 2008)
It was the match of the day this week as first played second in Division 1 in a title-challenge clash. Top of the table Inter were quick to make their mark on the game and their powerhouse Polish midfielder, Grzegorz Golinski, opened the scoring with a well taken finish topping off a lovely counter-attack. Within a few minutes, Inter had doubled their lead from the spot as captain Alex Schosland slotted home the penalty awarded for area infringement. Kingsmen, however, were beginning to carve open Inter’s defence and found themselves right back in the game with a couple of quick goals before half-time to level things up. The second half though belonged to Kingsmen as they stifled most of Inter’s attacking play and broke forward in numbers, as Inter failed to get a hold on the game. A fantastic volley from Inter’s Nick Morgan late into the second half set up an exciting few final minutes, but Kingsmen’s defence held solid and they were the victors by 5 goals to 3.
Inter NHS vs Los Terremotos (Monday, 6 October 2008)
Inter NHS vs Los Terremotos was the opening game on Monday night’s cold crisp evening. There was no chance of Inter icing up though as they flew out of the starting blocks and their most experienced player, Richard Hyde, bagged a hat-trick within the first 5 minutes. By the 10 minute mark, Inter were 5 – 0 up and very much in control. The statistics by this stage were rather damming for Los Terremotos as they had yet to trouble Inter’s keeper. A stern talking to and change of personnel at half time must have worked for Los Terremotos as they found their stride and kept Inter’s attacks at bay. They counter-attacked well and exploited Inter’s defensive gaps and got themselves back into the match by scoring three quick goals. However, they then ran into a keeper who is currently very much in-form and Haematology’s Brian Warner produced some fantastic saves to stem the haemorrhage. Inter’s attacking class was still evident in the second half and they further added to the score line, though were fortunate to have been rewarded for their excellent first half display. 9 – 6 to Inter was the final score and probably a fair reflection of the match overall.
Ten Bellies vs Total Billies (Monday 6th October 2008)
On a pleasent Monday evening Ten Bellies and Total Billies squared up at the Frank Lee Arena. Ten Bellies still reeling from a 13 -12 loss to AC Sillhouette got ready to face the action. The lessons learned from last weeks loss was clear to see as ''the Bellies'' kept to a simple system of pass and move and ''the Billies'' keeper was tested early on by the ever present Paul Webb. The attacking style was not without its drawbacks as the Billies quickly hit on the break and the bellies found themselves 1 down. Not wanting to let heads drop some simple passes later the score was pulled back to 1-1. By half time the Billies had made the score 6-3 with some impressive attacks. With everything to do in the second half the Bellies started positively employing a sweeper in the robust form of Will Jordan. This proved the best descision in the game as only 1 goal was conceded in the second half by the Bellies Keeper. That said the Billies still managed to test Faulkner with some excellent shots which were saved by the keeper making some 'one for the camera' saves. A huge fight back by the Bellies ensued and the score ended but 8-7 to the Bellies. Some might say a fair result considering the possesion and passing, others say it was slightly unfair on the Billies after they took a decent lead at half time. All would agree though, a great game of football.
Inter NHS vs Sons of Pele (Monday, 29 September 2008)
A game of two halves was the story for Inter NHS vs Sons of Pele on Monday. It was all looking a bit bleak for Inter, even before kick-off, as the opposition had at least 8 players to their 4!! Sons of Pele were dominant in the first half and kept Inter at bay, despite them fielding a full compliment eventually, and they were perhaps unfortunate to be only leading 4 – 2 at half time. However, Inter managed to find some bursts of individual skill and suddenly the goals came for them. Nick Morgan netted 4 times, and goals of individual brilliance that put Diego Maradona’s second against England in ‘86 to shame, finally undid the Pele boys. Final score was 10 – 5 to Inter, though the score line may have flattered them a bit over the course of the whole game.
